Buenas noches de Urubamba, Perú!

Espero que todo les vayan bien en Claremont y abroad...Perú is a dream. More stunning than anything I could have imagined. Think the hills of the shire (replete with flower fields) rolling into the distance where they are met by sharply protruding mountains straight from king kong or some other mystical story. The traveling was rather long...leaving Claremont at 7:30am and getting to Cusco at 10:00am the next day. But we had great bonding time all night in the Lima airport...
Once we got to Cusco, the first thing our director gave us was Coca tea, for the elevation, and long rolls of sweet bread, which was very appreciated since we were all ravenous. After a brief wander in the Cusco Plaza de Armas, we made our way to Urubamba por bús.
Today we split up in groups to venture by public transportation to small communities and do a scavenger hunt-esque activity. The idea was to get us feeling a bit more comfortable with independance here. It was marvelous. We also had salsa lessons and ate a bunch of fruit we bought in the markets.
The weather is lovely, ranging between 60-75 in the day and cool at night. I am in LOVE with Peruvian food already and have been enjoying some of the 600 types of potatoes, lots of quinoa, lots of soup, and lots of fresh orange juice and lemonade.
Oh, and tomorrow is Machu Picchu. Yep, I'm a tad bit excited.
The internet here is not fast enough to let me upload fotos, so you're just gonna have to wait till i'm in Cusco.
Miss and love you all,
Adele

Hey there:)

I just wanted to give you a quick update....I've been trying to stay warm while enjoying numerous cups of ho cho, which is surprisingly (or not so surprisingly) good here:) Laura was totally right, I don't think I brought enough warm clothes. But that's alright. I'll just have to buy a few things....:) Today was really really cold, I just got back from a dinner with my Danish class at a restaurant near my kollegium. I'm really confused by the Danish language, when people speak it sounds like they are talking with food in their mouths.

Yesterday I tried to go for a run in the snow, and took a few photos. I've discovered a lake nearby, it reminds me of Greenlake in Seattle. It's quite bleak outside, so I'm looking forward to the day when I can be free of earmuffs, mittens, coat, boots, and scarf. Claremont sunshine is looking really nice right now!

I've had my first architecture studio and we have to build a model of these houses in Copenhagen, which sounds fun but my professor is kind of open-ended as to what he wants us to do, not to mention I have very little experience with this sort of thing. But hey! It'll be fun.

Thinkin of all you and wishing you all a fun weekend (Alumni meet?), and good hot beverages, as well as cold ones,

Marnie

Good Morning to You All,

And yes, I realize that right now, three of the six members...are me. I just got so confused! I don't even know how I got one of the accounts, and another is from my CMC mail, which doesn't want to let me sign in again. I truly feel like the grandma I am. Ah well.

That aside, I am so excited about this blog! I want to hear all your stories from the semester...all of them! Life in Seattle goes on much as it has this past six weeks...(name that (modified) quote for extra points). The most eventful news is that my house flooded so my family is living in a hotel, kind-of like "The Suite Life of Zach and Cody" except I'm not personal friends with all the staff and I don't have a suite. But there is perpetual tea and coacoa and OtiSpunkmeyer cookies!

Other than that, I bought a backpacking backpack for Peru! It looks like this Deuter Backpack I got the blue one. And it came with a yellow lilly hairband tied on :) There are so many little things I have to do. I won't bore you with all the inane details, but some fun ones are getting a Yellow Fever vaccine, buying a pair of (rather hipster, i must add) glasses, and purchasing a water bottle that filters water from lakes, streams, and otherwise questionable sources...go REI.

In other news, it snowed like crazy in Seattle! Of course the whole city basically shut down for the week. But to be fair, we did get 8-12 inches. And I met someone in Bellingham who had 20. Let's just say the sledding was unreal.

My house in Der Schnee
Well, that pretty much covers everything. I'm quite excited to see you all one last time and have a few more laughs before heading out. Until then, if you want to be able to post, I think I can add people now...or ask Marn Marn.

Miss you and love you,
Adele

Hey there:)

In my hours of time soaking up the Claremont sunshine for a couple more days, I see that an athenas abroad blog has been created! It shall be a good way to keep in touch during the semester, share adventures, and just feel some good love from each other:) Anyone feel free to post - whether trotting along the trails of South American mountains, sitting alongside senators in D.C, getting lost - but hopefully not too lost - in Europe, or navigating the nooks and crannies of Claremont, please please please feel free to contribute.

Much much love,

Marnie
